Electoral College Voting Concludes With No Faithless Electors

New Hampshire's first-in-the-nation U.S. presidential primary election is held at the Medallion Opera House in Gorham

On Tuesday evening, the Electoral College voting process came to a close with Hawaii casting its four electoral votes for Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. The national totals mirrored the results of the November election, with President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance securing 312 votes each, while Harris and Walz received 226 votes each.

It is important to note that a candidate needs to secure at least 270 out of the total 538 electoral votes to be elected as president.

Remarkably, for the second consecutive election, there were no instances of 'faithless electors,' as each elector honored their commitment to vote for the candidates they were designated to represent.

The Electoral College voting process, which took place in every state and Washington, DC, is a symbolic yet crucial step in the presidential election procedure.

Following the completion of the Electoral College voting, the next phase involves sending each state's votes to Congress. Lawmakers are scheduled to convene in a joint session on January 6 to formally count the electoral votes and officially announce Trump and Vance as the incoming president and vice president.

The inauguration ceremony for the newly elected officials is set to take place at noon on January 20, 2025.
