An elderly woman has been killed in a road crash in Cork.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the fatal collision, which happened in Midleton this morning.
At around 10.30am, officers and emergency services were alerted to the single-car crash on St Mary's Road in the town.
A woman aged in her 80s, the driver of the car and sole occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her body has been removed to Cork University Hospital, where a post-mortem will take place at a later date.
A Garda forensic team has been requested to examine the scene and the local coroner has been notified.
The road is currently closed and local diversions are in place.
Gardai added in a statement: "Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward and for those with camera footage to make it available to them.
