Elderly woman kicked and beaten in savage gang attack outside flat

An elderly Asian woman has revealed how she was thrown to the ground and brutally kicked and punched by a gang outside her apartment. The Asian woman, who identified herself as Mrs Ren, was jumped on by the attackers in the corridor of her apartment building and they took turns to hit her after she tried to escape into an escalator.

The woman in her 70s claimed, speaking through an interpreter, that the gang first asked her what the time was and she responded by showing her watch with the time at 5pm as she does not speak English. Then they tried to take her iPhone which she said she refused to give over and tried to run to get to a lift in the building where the gang started to attack her.

“They got really mad and pulled me down,” Mrs Ren reportedly said. Footage shows Mrs Ren, from San Francisco, being beaten with kicks and punches in the face while she lay on the ground.

“They used their fist to hit my head multiple times and then they pulled me down and kept kicking me,” she said, reported ABC7News. At one point it appeared as though the attack was over and the 70-year-old tried to hide in the hallway but the gang returned and continued to take turns in beating her again, while also taking her keys.

Mrs Ren is now bed-ridden from the assault and says that she had only just started to go out again after two-years of isolation due to Covid. “Yesterday was one of the first days for a long time she went out and this is what happened,” she said after the attack last Sunday.

She and her daughter Mrs Zeng have said that they have been traumatised by what happened and they are worried for their safety at the apartment. “I never expected this to happen to us, even though we saw a lot of reporting,” said Mrs Zheng, referring to reports of anti-Asian hate crimes that have taken place in San Francisco.

“I want this story to come out so people know and so for other people to be aware to be safe.” San Francisco Police Department is investigating the case and have been given the video of the attack.

The Asian community makes up around a third of the population in San Francisco and there has been a spate of attacks since the covid pandemic, according to Mirror Online.
