Elderly disabled passenger 'set upon' by group of teens on Lanarkshire rail service

British Transport Police have launched an appeal after a blind woman was set upon by a group of girls on a Lanarkshire rail service.

The 60-year-old was followed by the group who yelled abuse at her until she got off the service between Balloch and Airdrie.

The incident happened shortly before 7pm on Monday, July 25, with the BTP now appealing for information as they hunt those responsible.

Officers said the blind woman was assaulted by the group on the train as it was travelling between Dumbarton Central and Drumry, in West Dunbartonshire.

The force said she was then followed by the group who continued hurling abuse at her as she left the train.

A spokesman said any witnesses can contact the British Transport Police by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 2200073984.

Information can also be shared anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
