As of his Thursday morning pre-practice presser, Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero did not have his premier pass rusher under a new contract. So, he can only take the situation as it comes.
Evero was asked about Sunday’s status for outside linebacker Brian Burns, who remains without the long-term, big-money extension he’s been seeking all offseason. He had simply this to say:

The two-time Pro Bowler returned to a full practice yesterday, after sitting out last Thursday’s outing and this past Monday’s walkthrough. But with Burns remaining silent on the matter, no one seems to be sure that he’ll be suiting up for the season opener against the Atlanta Falcons if a deal is not reached.
That could, however, happen later today—especially after the San Francisco 49ers and reigning AP Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa reset the edge market less than 24 hours ago.
