Eight-time All-Ireland winner says Argentina's World Cup celebrations 'nasty and unlikable'

Kilkenny hurling legend Eddie Brennan believes some of Argentina's World Cup celebrations were "nasty and unlikable".

The World Cup champions were criticised by some of their actions throughout the tournament, especially how they celebrated their penalty shootout win over the Netherlands at the quarter-final stage.

After two saves from Emiliano Martinez, striker Lautaro Martinez slotted away the winning penalty to put Argentina into the last four.

When the decisive spot-kick went in, the Argentine players turned to gloat their distraught Dutch counterparts following a fiery contest, which ended with 18 bookings.

Goalkeeper Martinez was also criticised following Sunday's final for how be behaved during the shootout, with Chris Sutton saying his behaviour was "despicable" after the Aston Villa keeper threw the ball away before Aurelian Tchouameni took his penalty, which ended up going wide.

Martinez also mocked Kylian Mbappe, who scored a hat-trick in the final, in Argentina's dressing room following their win.

And it was their dressing room antics that annoyed Brennan most.

Posting on Twitter after the final, the eight-time All-Ireland winner said: "Something kinda nasty & unlikable about how Argentina carry on in the dressing room after they win."

Meanwhile, Argentina's team were greeted by thousands of fans in Buenos Aires as they arrived home at 2am local time on Tuesday.

Lionel Scaloni’s side flew back to the capital on a flight from Rome, with the party continuing on board. When they touched down at Ezeiza International Airport they had the nation’s media and packed crowds awaiting them ahead of a planned victory parade later in the day.

The World Cup final triumph over France on penalties following a 3-3 draw is now over 35 hours old. But celebrations in Argentina are showing no signs of slowing down, with news footage from Buenos Aires highlighting the passionate nature of the team’s supporters.
