Egyptian security forces thwarted a terrorist suicide attack in North Sinai, the Interior Ministry announced in a statement on Thursday.
"A terrorist planned to carry out a suicide attack against security forces at a police checkpoint in Al-Teloul district,” it added.
A shootout ensued and the attacker was killed.
The terrorist was found in possession of an explosive belt, two hand grenades, an automatic weapon, four weapon magazines and 112 bullets of the same caliber.
The Interior Ministry will continue to counter the "desperate attempts by terrorist elements to target Armed Forces and police personnel and harm the state," read the statement.
Over a week ago, ISIS claimed responsibility for a terrorist attack against the army in Sinai.
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi vowed that Egypt would continue security operations in Northern Sinai to cleanse it of terrorists.
