Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi met Monday Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune in Cairo.
The Algerian president is on a two-day state visit and is expected to discuss with his Egyptian counterpart regional matters of mutual interest and the upcoming Arab summit.
Last week, Sisi received a written message from Tebboune after holding talks with Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra in Cairo.
Tebboune underlined Algeria's pride in its close and distinguished relations with Egypt at the official and popular levels.
In his letter, the President also stressed his county's interest in strengthening bilateral cooperation with Egypt in various fields.
Tebboune said he looks forward to further enhancing coordination and consultation with Sisi during the coming period to counter the various challenges facing the region and the Arab nation and reinforce joint Arab action.
The meeting emphasized the importance of holding the next session of the Joint Higher Committee at the level of the two countries' prime ministers.
It also highlighted the importance of holding the next session of the political consultation mechanism at the level of the two foreign ministers.
Egypt and Algeria plan on holding the next session of the Joint Higher Committee, which convened last in 2014, in order to activate its role.
Last Saturday, Lamamra expressed the Algerian president’s commitment to continue coordination and consultation with the Arab leaders and officials of the Secretariat General of the Arab League.
The topics to be tackled during the Egyptian-Algerian summit are the Libyan issue and the importance of ensuring Libya’s security and holding the Libyan elections.
The summit will also discuss the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), the Palestinian cause, the Tunisian condition, and the reinforcement of bilateral ties.
