EFL fixtures: West Ham to face Burnley in Championship opener after Premier League relegation

  • The English Football League ( EFL ) fixtures for the 2026-27 season have been released, with the opening weekend scheduled from Friday, August 14 to Sunday, August 16, involving all 72 clubs across the three divisions.
  • The Championship season will kick off with relegated Wolves hosting Blackburn Rovers at Molineux on Friday, August 14, at 8pm, marking Wolves ' return to the second tier since 2018 under new boss Cesar Peixoto.
  • Other significant Championship opening fixtures include relegated West Ham United clashing with Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday, Southampton beginning their campaign on Sunday, and a Welsh derby between promoted Cardiff City and Wrexham on Monday.
  • Leagues One and Two will commence on Saturday, August 15; Leicester City, a decade after winning the Premier League, will start their League One journey at Notts County, while Bromley will make their third-tier debut at Barnsley.
  • In League Two , York City will mark their return to the EFL after a decade by hosting Bristol Rovers, promoted Rochdale will visit Newport, and relegated Rotherham United will play their first fourth-tier match since 2013 away at Cheltenham.
