Edu under increasing pressure to secure deadline day Arsenal signing despite Aubameyang setback

It's the final day of the transfer window and Arsenal look unlikely to sign a new striker before the deadline. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who joined the Gunners for £55 million four years ago today, looked set to leave the club after disciplinary issues meant that he lost the captains armband and place in Mikel Arteta's squad, but that is now in doubt too.

According to The Athletic's David Ornstein, Barcelona's talks with Arsenal over the loan for Aubameyang have broken down over salary.

Despite this, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has confirmed that the potential deal for Auba is not completely dead just yet.

"We would like to incorporate Aubameyang. It's very complicated but there is hope," Laporta told Mundo Deportivo a short while ago.

The Gunners have been linked with several forwards over the course of the month, but despite Aubameyang landing in Spain in an attempt to wrap up his departure from the club, it never seemed as if Mikel Arteta's side was close to bringing anyone through the door.

So, another blow for Arsenal fans who know the clock is ticking down for Edu to do something. The Arsenal Way's Tom Canton (TC) and Bailey Keogh (BK) gave their thought's on the Aubameyang situation and what it could mean for the north London club on the Deadline Day Arsenal Agenda show.

BK: “If you let your best player go the natural thing to do is replace the player in that position. Secondly, we are so short that even if we didn’t sell Aubameyang we would still need a striker anyway.

“So, it’s really disappointing. In my opinion, it’s settling now for a top-six place rather than a top-four place which we’ve stamped our mark on. I don’t think we’ve shown enough ambition in this transfer window.

“There’s still time left and things can change quickly. But, the likelihood of getting a striker especially in the January transfer window - I find it highly unlikely. Arsenal haven't made a move to sign a striker before deadline day.

“We should have been at deadline day with a striker already at the club, a midfielder too maybe.”

TC: “A striker was always going to be the priority for me with players who have struggled. Lacazette has scored - across all competitions three goals from open play. If that I think. Two goals from the penalty spot.”
