Edu identifies Mykhaylo Mudryk alternative as Arsenal plot £44m Tottenham transfer hijack

Arsenal are pushing to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk in the January transfer window but negotiations are proving difficult. Shakhtar Donetsk are standing firm on their £88million price tag for the 22-year-old winger.

The Gunners will be without Gabriel Jesus until next month after the Brazilian suffered a knee injury during the World Cup. Eddie Nketiah has stepped up in his absence and scored four goals in his last four appearances, but Mikel Arteta still wants to add more depth to his attack.

football.london reported earlier this month that Arsenal had an initial bid of £55million rejected by Shakhtar, before returning with an improved offer of £62million. The latest reports suggest sporting director Edu Gaspar has been given the funds by the Kroenke family to submit a bid closer to Shakhtar's valuation, despite Mudryk reuniting with his teammates for a winter training camp in Turkey.

Negotiations are set to continue this week as Arsenal look to secure a deal for their priority transfer target, but should a deal fall through it seems they have an alternative option. A report from Media Foot has claimed that both Liverpool and Arsenal have enquired about Rennes forward Martin Terrier.

Tottenham have also been linked with a move for the French attacker, with Media Foot claiming the Lilywhites have held talks with the player's representatives. Rennes will demand a fee in the region of €50million (£44million) for the attacker, who has continued his fine form this season.

Terrier has scored 12 goals in 22 appearances so far this term and could prove to be a valuable asset to a top Premier League side. The 25-year-old has the ability to play on either wing or as a centre-forward which is exactly what Arsenal need at present to help aid their Premier League title charge, but a move for Terrier may not be available until the summer after he suffered a serious knee injury at the start of the new year.
