Edu handed huge problem in race to sign Mikel Arteta's dream Thomas Partey partner at Arsenal

Arsenal's recruitment strategy under manager Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu is clear to see.

The Gunners' hierarchy are prioritising signing young players who are tailored to the manager's long term vision and possess exciting potential.

It's an approach that breeds sustainability and so far, every acquisition made in the 2021 summer transfer window has been a massive hit, with Aaron Ramsdale, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Ben White all delivering incredible levels of consistency.

With regards to the January window, Arteta advocated for the club to continue the process of moving out players who are deemed surplus to requirements.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Callum Chambers and Sead Kolasinac all left the club on a permanent basis, whilst Ainsley Maitland Niles, Pablo Mari and Folarin Balogun managed to seal short term loan moves.

Trimming the squad and essentially reducing the wage bill suggests that the north Londoners are planning another big summer spending spree in order to bridge the gap between themselves and the elite within the division.

One noticeable area that Arsenal look increasingly likely to strengthen in is midfield.

Granit Xhaka is an essential cog to the way the current Arsenal team functions both with and without the ball, but with Roma heavily interested in signing the Swiss international, the chances of the 29-year old leaving is fairly high.

Plenty of midfielders have been linked with a move to the Emirates, one of which is Wolves' Ruben Neves.

The former Porto captain has been in fine form under new manager Bruno Lage and has been an integral cog to the team.

But whilst Arsenal are reportedly interested in the Portuguese international, Juventus are said to have put themselves in the race to sign Neves, according to Fichajes.net.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the Neves as, given the fact that he has been a consistent performer this season, there is a growing expectation that plenty of clubs across Europe will be monitoring his situation.
