Edu Gaspar Set To Leave Arsenal Amid Evangelos Marinakis Talks

Arsenal sporting director Edu Gaspar is reportedly set to depart the Emirates, while he is said to be in talks with Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis over a role with his network of clubs.

Edu Gaspar Set To Leave Arsenal

Following on from their miserable 1-0 defeat away at Newcastle on Saturday, Arsenal have been dealt another blow, as it is being reported that their sporting director Edu Gaspar is set to leave the club.

The Brazilian has been credited for his role in landing several key signings at the Emirates in recent years, including the likes of Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice, a crucial factor in the Gunners becoming Premier League title contenders.

An official statement has not yet been released, however the Daily Mail reports that the decision to leave was made by the 46-year-old himself, not by Arsenal, and that talks with the club’s hierarchy are ongoing, with further details expected to emerge in the next 24 hours.

Edu, who was part of Arsenal’s ‘Invincibles’ alongside the likes of Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Vieira under Arsene Wenger, is said to be in talks with Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis over a role with his network of football clubs.

Alongside Forest, the Greek multi-billionaire also owns reigning Conference League champions Olympiacos and Portuguese Primeira Liga outfit Rio Ave. Edu could now head up their recruitment going forward.

It remains unclear whether the Gunners have a replacement lined up for the sporting director role, but more could be revealed on Tuesday when Mikel Arteta faces the media in his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday night’s Champions League clash away at Inter Milan.

Arsenal are currently in ninth place in the Champions League league phase table after two wins and a draw, while they are now in fifth place in the Premier League table after going three successive matches without a victory.
