Edu can seal bargain Arsenal transfer for Joao Cancelo alternative amid Kieran Tierney exit

Kieran Tierney’s Arsenal exit appears to be turning into something of an inevitability at this stage. The Scottish international remains firmly behind Oleksandr Zinchenko in the Arsenal Xi and, when fit, even Takehiro Tomiyasu has been preferred.

With plenty of investment needed at the club, Tierney represents one of the most saleable assets in the team and one who the club could deem expendable. With that in mind, the club are likely to need a replacement for him.

Joao Cancelo has been reportedly touted as a profile who is of interest to Arsenal. Having spent the second half of the season on loan at Bayern Munich, there are indications that Manchester City may be willing to sell having included a purchase clause in the contract that the German side so far have shown little intention of activating.

Cancelo is likely to be very expensive, that is even if City would be willing to again sell to Arsenal. The transfers of Gabriel Jesus and Zinchenko preluded a rival title challenge from the Gunners which could provoke the league leaders and champions to reconsider selling to the red half of north London again.

In this case, Arsenal will need an alternative and one could be extremely financially attractive to the Gunners. So much so that in terms of a transfer fee it wouldn’t cost the club a single penny.

Raphael Guerreiro has enjoyed a brilliant season at Borussia Dortmund scoring five goals and assisting a further 14. Sport 1 claimed earlier this month that despite a contract offer being on the table from BVB, the player is yet to respond and could look to make a switch this summer.

What is so attractive about the profile of Guerreiro beyond his cheapness, is his style of play. The Portuguese international has featured in midfield for Dortmund in March and subsequently went on to win the Bundesliga Player of the Month after scoring twice and assisting three times.

With this experience under his belt and still 29, the versatile full-back could be the perfect acquisition to bring competition to the role on the left-hand side and even in midfield considering Granit Xhaka is expected to leave for Bayer Leverkusen football.london understands. Stylistically, looking at the images below, it shows where the Portuguese international can influence the game from the internal parts of the field.

Very Zinchenko-esque you might say? With Cancelo likely being so expensive and other areas of the team needing to see some expensive purchases brought in, it makes so much sense that it seems like a matter of time before the links begin to emerge.
