As the January transfer window creeps closer and closer, speculation continues to mount over several players that could soon be on the move. Many of those are linked with Arsenal, who have a very clear objective which is to strengthen the frontline.
Gabriel Jesus could be out for up to three months following successful surgery on his knee, while there is also concern for Reiss Nelson after he appeared to tweak his hamstring during a friendly against Juventus on Saturday.
Various reports have suggested Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk is the club's priority this winter, but another name refuses to go away. The Athletic reported last week that Arsenal are weighing up whether to enter the frame for Atletico Madrid forward Matheus Cunha, as Mikel Arteta looks to soften the injury blow to Jesus.

This was backed up by GOAL in Spain, who claim that the Gunners are still considering a move for the Brazilian. Fellow Premier League side Wolves have been viewed as the favourites to secure Cunha’s signature, with manager Julen Lopetegui telling Marca that a deal was "close" eight days ago.
However, with no developments since then, Arsenal could still be in with a chance and sporting director Edu can play a key role should Arteta signal the green light. Edu is well known to have strong connections when it comes to South American players and agents.
The 44-year-old was crucial in getting a deal over the line for Jesus, as the player himself confirmed. "Well first of all when Edu came to talk with me and asked me how I am, how I was feeling as a person and then as a football player, what I wanted in the future," Jesus told Sky Sports.
"The conversation between me and Edu was amazing because I was so happy with the project of the club and then straight away I say ‘yes’ I think my way is in London."
In addition to his obvious influence when it comes to transfer negotiations, Express Sport was recently told by a leading British representative who works for one of the world's most high-profile agencies, that Edu is now recognised as one of the "most-respected strategic operators in football".
With all of that in mind, it’s difficult not to highlight the obvious influence Edu could have on talks for Cunha should they take place. Additionally, the Gunners’ current position in the league would undoubtedly be another pivotal factor in getting any potential deals over the line next month.
