Edu can rectify £34m Arsenal transfer mistake if Gunners can secure £63m Dusan Vlahovic deal

Arsenal can rectify their £34million summer mistake if they are able to tempt Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic to join the club this month.

football.london understands that the Gunners are pushing to try and bring Vlahovic to the Emirates Stadium during the January transfer window as Mikel Arteta looks for a long-term Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang replacement.

The Serbian international is into the final 18 months of his contract with the Florence club but it is not a deal that will come easy, given a host of Europe's elite are interesting in his services, whilst the youngster's representatives are said to be demanding huge fees as part of any deal.

If they are unable to tempt the 21-year-old, who is valued at £63million by Transfermarkt, to make the a move to north London, technical director Edu will be ruing his decision to let English frontman Tammy Abraham join AS Roma over the summer.

Abraham was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal after his former club Chelsea spent a club-record £98million to bring Belgian hitman Romelu Lukaku back to Stamford Bridge.

However, a move never materialised and the 24-year-old opted to join Jose Mourinho and in Rome, where he has showcased his undeniable talent in front of goal.

Abraham has already provided 15 goals and three assists for the Giallorossi this season, establishing himself as one of Serie A's best centre-forwards, something that will leave Gunners supporters frustrated given their previous interest, especially if they are unable to land Vlahovic this month.

In fact, the former Aston Villa loanee is an Arsenal fan himself, admitting back in 2017 that Thierry Henry was his idol growing up.

"To be honest, I was an Arsenal fan," Abraham told Eurosport.

"When you’re young and you choose who to support, if it’s a family thing, it’s a family thing. Luckily for me, it was a family thing, so it wasn’t really a problem at Chelsea.

"Someone I looked up to was Thierry Henry. His variations of finishing, his movement, the way he dribbles.

"Someone like that has a key impact on me. I would love to be as big as him and maybe even better."
