Edinson Cavani's concerning Manchester United injury record in numbers after latest derby setback

Edinson Cavani has been unavailable through injury for over 50 per cent of Manchester United's fixtures this season.

Cavani signed for United on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2020 and there were doubts over his ability to still operate at an elite level. Cavani has emphatically squashed such accusations but his injury record has been disappointing.

Although the 35-year-old signed a contract extension to stay at the club for this season, his involvement has been sporadic and United fans haven't had the chance to regularly enjoy the player that seemed to be becoming a cult hero last term. Cavani has been struggling with a groin problem all season and he was sidelined again for United's match against Manchester City on Sunday.

It was the latest setback for Cavani in a campaign in which he's only started seven games. Cavani being sidelined for the Manchester derby was also the 21st match he's missed this season from a possible 37 games across all competitions for United.

Cavani being injured for 21 out of 37 fixtures also means he's been unavailable through injury for 56% of matches.

Cavani turned 35 on Valentine's Day and he's set to leave United on a free transfer at the end of the season.

The player was understood to be keen on a return to South America before extending his United contract, but reports have also suggested Cavani has attracted interest from La Liga in Spain, though his injury record might worry any potential suitor.
