Edinson Cavani finds new club after leaving Manchester United

Edinson Cavani has joined Valencia after leaving Manchester United earlier this summer.

Cavani left United upon the expiration of his contract in July after spending the last two seasons at Old Trafford. The veteran striker joined the club upon his release from Paris Saint-Germain in 2020 and was an instant hit with 17 goals in his first season, earning him a contract extension.

However, Cavani struggled to live up to his debut campaign the following year and only scored two goals as he spent a large chunk of the season unavailable. Despite there being a strong suggestion that the Urugyuan was keen to return to South America throughout his time in Manchester, he has opted to remain in Europe.

Cavani has put pen to paper on a two-year deal at Spanish side Valencia and he has explained why he made the switch. "We're here because, right from the start, the club wanted me," he said.

"It's not just about where you want to go; it's also down to the club having an interest in you. It's taken many days going back and forth, and there was always a desire shown for me to be here. What motivated me the most was that I know that Valencia CF are a big club.

"This is a beautiful challenge for me, so I'm here because I feel that there is a passion for football which fulfils us as players when it's time to go out onto the pitch. There have been some very long days, as we were a little anxious to know what was going to happen, waiting for this moment to arrive. We know what Valencia CF represent and this excites us and motivates us for this new challenge.

"I'm very happy to be part of the history of this club, and I hope that together we can do wonderful things."
