Edinburgh woman loses two stone after making simple lifestyle changes

An Edinburgh woman is hoping to use her weight loss experience to help others who are struggling during the cost-of-living crisis.

Jane Summers lost two stone after deciding to battle her long-term weight issues, which were exasperated during lockdown.

Now, Jane is aiming to assist others in achieving their dream bodies by opening a new Slimming World group in South Queensferry.

With the cost-of-living crisis forcing many people to reconsider their shopping habits, the group will look to provide advice on how to lose weight on a budget.

Having found success with Slimming World herself after trialling various diets and routines, Jane believes sharing the experience with new members will be beneficial in the current financial situation.

“I’d tried so many different ways to lose weight and most of them worked at first, but nothing lasted. When I went to my first group, it was with a bit of trepidation.

“I was immediately hit by how welcoming the group was and how the group consultant made me feel. It felt like she had been waiting for me to walk through the door.

“I walked away that first day thinking this might actually be something I could do. The plan sounded amazing, and I could have loads of the things I loved – in moderation of course.”

Slimming World says its members are encouraged to share low-cost recipes, as well as their everyday tips of saving pennies.

There is also an emphasis on shopping locally, with groups sharing the best places to go for deals and bargains in their area.

Jane will promoting the use of the ‘Body Magic’ programme at her South Queensferry group, which encourages people to get off the couch and get active.

She said: “I love walking in the countryside with my dog - it’s a great way to take in the local surroundings and get some fresh air. Body Magic helps you to see how even everyday household tasks all help to get you more active.

“I feel better about myself than I have for ages. Even just the feeling of achieving the weight loss has given me a spring in my step. I started to think – what’s next.

“What else could I do but become a consultant myself and spread the word to loads of other people who are looking for the lifeline to a brighter, lighter future?”

Jane’s Slimming World group starts on the Monday October 31 at The Queen’s Retreat, 6 Scotsoun Grove in South Queenferry at 7pm.
