A woman in Edinburgh has created toxin-free candles after a shock diagnosis in 2022 that would force the self-care loving local to give up candles as they became a trigger for her asthma.
Ghazal Anisi began her business, Rêve Aromas, after a sudden asthma diagnosis last year and had a pop-up shop in Harvey Nichols in December which sold out and has seen great success since.
The savvy 28-year-old used this dilemma to start a new candle company that only uses toxin-free wax and cruelty-free ingredients.

A self-renowned candle addict, Ghazal did not want to give up burning candles although she would have been forced to due to her new diagnosis.
This led to her coming up with the idea to create a candle that would be safe for asthma and other allergen sufferers so that they did not have to give up burning candles in their own homes.
However, the products are not only for those who suffer from respiratory conditions or other allergies. Ghazal said: “Prioritising well-being is a luxury, I think that health consciousness is the real luxury.”
“I want to try to get people to switch to paraffin-free candles. These candles are filled with harmful toxins so why would we want to inhale them? We wouldn’t apply toxic skincare chemicals on our face so why breathe them in?
“I create the candle scents based on memories that I have from my travels and other memories that I have created, and I want to be able to get people to create their own new memories through the scents."
Ghazal prides herself on the fact that her products contain only the highest quality soy wax that is non-toxic.

She explained: "All scents are gender-neutral so that everyone can enjoy my products and feel the benefits of lighting candles which ease stress and promote relaxation.
"All the products sold by Rêve Aromas are either reusable, recyclable or biodegradable, from the packaging to the labels. We use cotton candle wicks for a clean and even burn and all candles are hand poured in Scotland."
