Edinburgh weather: Yellow warning for thunderstorms issued as weather set to take a turn

A yellow warning has been issued for Edinburgh, with sunny skies set to disappear.

Both the Met Office and BBC have updated their predictions for the capital on June 11, warning of 'thunderstorms with heavy rain and hail'. This should ease off towards the end of the day, with the sun appearing by late afternoon.

The warning is only in place for Sunday, with Monday set to return to bright skies and warmer temperatures reaching up to 22C. This looks set to continue throughout the week, with Friday seeing highs of 24C.

The Met Office said: "While some places will be largely dry, thunderstorms with heavy rain and hail are likely to develop in places on Sunday afternoon.

"There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds. Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services."

The BBC echoed this statement, adding that people should be 'considering travel plans ahead of time'.

They continued: "Keep an eye on the latest forecast and be aware that the weather may change or worsen, leading to disruption of your plans in the next few days."
