Edinburgh weather: The exact moment Storm Corrie will hit as ScotRail cancels all trains

Less than 24 hours after being blown about by Storm Malik, Edinburgh is set to be hit by yet another January storm.

Named as Storm Corrie, the weather front has caused further Met Office warnings to be issued across the country, with heavy rain and more gale force winds on their way.

To keep passengers across the country safe, ScotRail announced on Sunday that all of their services will stop from 6pm on January 30, with a 40mph speed limit being set up until that time.

Speaking about the decision, Network Rail said: "The Met Office has named #StormCorrie.

"Heavy rain will sweep in from the west today and extremely high winds follow on nationwide from 18:00 until midnight. To protect passengers and railway staff, domestic ScotRail services will wind down earlier on Sunday evening."

When will Storm Corrie hit Edinburgh?

According to the most recent forecast, Edinburgh will see a pleasant start to Sunday, with sunshine, very light winds and mostly clear skies throughout the late morning.

However, from around 1pm things will start to cloud over, with wind speeds picking up slightly by temperatures staying around six degrees.

Storm Corrie itself is due to hit the capital at somewhere between 3pm and 4pm, with the conditions to get a lot bleaker very quickly.

Although only a yellow warning for wind in Edinburgh, the storm is expected to cause severe damage in other parts of Scotland, where an amber warning has been issued.

From around 4pm, heavy rain will begin, with wind speeds jumping from around 16mph to around 30mph in an hour.

The next few hours will see wind speeds continue to get stronger, with gusts of over 50mph expected later in the evening at around 8pm or 9pm.

The rain is forecast to have subsided by around 7pm, with the worst of the downpours coming in the late afternoon.

The high winds however will last right through the night, with less blustery conditions only to arrive at around 5am on Monday.
