Edinburgh weather: Temperatures to plunge below zero on Tuesday night

Temperatures in Edinburgh are set to plummet below freezing overnight on Tuesday according to BBC Weather.

The forecaster stated that it will be "feeling chilly" in the capital tonight, with the mercury plunging to -1 degrees Celsius.

Following a relatively mild afternoon in Edinburgh, with peaks of 9C, temperatures will begin to fall in the early evening as skies clear up.

By 8pm, it will be approximately 2C in the city and it will continue getting colder as the night goes on — though skies will remain clear.

Temperatures are set to hit their lowest at around 1am, holding steading at -1C until after 4am when things will begin to warm up.

On Wednesday morning, clouds will begin to form again over Edinburgh as the city continues to gradually unthaw.

Aside a brief period of clear and sunny skies at 8am, it will be a predominantly cloudy day in the capital.

Although it looks to be a mild one according to BBC Weather — with peaks of 8C in the afternoon – the forecaster predicts that the chance of rainfall will rise in the evening.

By 8pm, "light rain" is expected and this will continue until around midnight.

It said: "Tomorrow will start dry and bright, but cloud and spells of rain will soon build into the south, and then move into central and northern areas later on".

Thursday looks to be even wetter, with light rain predicted throughout the afternoon and evening.

It's also expected to be a mostly mild day, though temperatures will fall throughout the evening and night.
