Edinburgh weather: Met Office forecast for Bank Holiday as locals hope for sun

The Bank Holiday has arrived and many will be enjoying an extra day off to relax.

As many prepare to put their feet up or throw themselves into activities with the kids, the Met Office has revealed what the weather will be like over the long weekend.

The weather forecasters report that across the UK it will be a 'mixed picture' with scattered showers and some cloud as low pressure moves in on Saturday.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist David Oliver said: “It is a different mix of weather this bank holiday weekend after what has been a largely settled week for the UK.

“The high-pressure that has been dominating the UK in recent days will move away to the south, allowing a low-pressure system to move in from the northwest. This will bring with it some more unsettled weather with showers or some longer spells of rain across the north on Saturday and then southern areas on Sunday.

"A good deal of dry weather is expected on Monday with most areas only seeing some isolated showers and mild temperatures, widely in the mid-teens.”

Friday

Edinburgh can bask in sunshine on Friday, April 29, as temperatures are expected to reach a mild 14C.

If you've got a load of washing staring at you, you're best to hang outside from 12pm today to get the most of the warm weather.

The Met Office adds: "A chilly start then a dry and mostly sunny morning. Some cloud will bubble in the afternoon with one or two showers developing across Lothian and Borders Feeling rather warm with light winds. Maximum temperature 17C.

"Any showers dying out then a dry night with clear spells. Turning chilly inland with a touch of grass frost. Minimum temperature 2C."

Saturday

However it looks like a slightly different story on Saturday with the Met Office forecasting: "Sunny intervals changing to cloudy by late morning".

After sunshine and mild weather was enjoyed throughout the week, Saturday looks more cloudy with rain forecasted to hit the city by 3pm and then heavy rain will lash down at 8pm.

The Met Office adds: "A dry and bright start. Thickening cloud with outbreaks of rain spreading southeast from around late morning or early afternoon. Becoming breezy. Maximum temperature 13C"

Sunday

Sunday is expected to reach highs of around 13C or 14C and is set to remain cloudy - but dry - throughout the day with sunny intervals in the evening.

For the outlook for Monday to Tuesday, the Met Office forecast: "A damp start to Sunday but becoming mainly dry. Largely cloudy on Monday and Tuesday with a few showers. Patchy haar."

Monday

And Monday is looking similar but with the sun peeking through the clouds around 10am with highs of a warm 15C and dropping to only 8C through the middle of the night.
