Edinburgh weather: Hour-by-hour forecast as amber and yellow warnings in place

A weather warning is currently in place for much of Scotland with an amber warning covering areas such as Glasgow and closer to home, West Lothian.

It comes amid heavy snowfall across the country with travellers being warned to take extra care today (December 16) when heading out.

A number of roads are were reportedly closed during the early hours with the Met Office saying that more snow could accumulate.

In addition to drivers being warned, public transport users have also been issued a warning. It comes as Scottish CityLink buses have issued an urgent update to anyone travelling to and from Edinburgh. Taking to social media they announced all services northbound from Edinburgh have been cancelled due to poor conditions.

In a tweet they said: "All northbound services from Glasgow and Edinburgh to Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen and Inverness are currently suspended due to the poor road conditions caused by adverse weather conditions."

They also added that southbound services have also been suspended, affecting services to and from Glasgow. This comes as another wave of train strikes have left ScotRail running a skeleton service today.

So with the weather not so sunny and winter well and truly here, what can you expect? Here's what weather experts at the BBC have to say...
