Edinburgh weather: City to be hit with thunderstorms as Met Office puts warning in place

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the capital for thunderstorms, with downpours set to begin Sunday afternoon.

The warning is in place from 12pm on April 30 until 9pm on Sunday night with possible travel delays predicted and advice only travel if necessary.

The forecast advises that it will be a cloudy morning with outbreaks of rain before brightening up in the afternoon with a few heavy showers breaking out.

The Met Office warns: "While some places stay dry, hit-and-miss thunderstorms will develop Sunday and Sunday night, and may bring disruption in places.

"There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.

"Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.

"Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

"There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost."

Monday is set to see more showers across the capital during the morning and early afternoon but it will be an otherwise mainly dry and rather cloudy day.

The outlook for Tuesday to Thursday predicts a mostly dry and settled few days with some sunshine at times. Staying very mild but colder along the east coast on Thursday.
