Edinburgh train passengers facing major delays after electrical outage on main line

National Rail reported major train travel disruptions into Edinburgh Waverley due to a failure of electricity supply between Berwick-upon-Tweed and Edinburgh. The train service said all lines are currently blocked, and the disruptions are expected to continue for the rest of the day.

Trains between Morpeth and Edinburgh are further delayed by a tree blocking the railway. According to National Rail, trains between Morpeth and Edinburgh may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.

The delays have impacted services including the CrossCountry between Plymouth and Edinburgh; LNER between London Kings Cross and Edinburgh/Aberdeen; Lumo between London Kings Cross and Edinburgh; and the TransPennine Express between York/Newcastle/Berwick-upon-Tweed and Edinburgh.

National Rail first reported issues on these tracks at 2.30pm, and the incident was last updated at 5pm on Monday.

National Rail advised CrossCountry travellers to use tickets on routes from Avanti West Coast between Birmingham New Street and Edinburgh/Glasgow Central and the Northern between Newcastle and Carlisle.

Rail replacement buses have been requested for travel between Newcastle and Berwick-Upon-Tweed.

Delayed passengers on TransPennine Express can use their tickets on any reasonable CrossCountry or LNER routes.
