An Edinburgh woman has been left without her main form of transportation around Edinburgh after a thief stole her bike from the stairwell of her flat in Cannonmills.
Emily Dienger, a sports policy management and development student at the University of Edinburgh left her flat early in the afternoon, Tuesday June 14, to find her bike missing from the stairwell of the building.
She had seen it the night before, which means it had been stolen over the night or in the early hours of the morning.

The 23-year-old student says that she believes the thief got into the building after the exterior doors to the stairwell were left open.
She has now reported the incident to the police but is desperate to get the bike back as it would cost an entire month of her pay to replace it.
Emily said: “I discovered it was stolen around 2pm, I had come home from the gym at 11:30 and it had been there and I went to the library to get some studying done and it was gone.
“It’s really important, it's my main form of transportation I have in the city and I also do a significant amount of distance cycling for exercise and leisure.
“I am a chronically optimistic person so I’m hopeful but everybody has been telling me not to hold my breath.”
Eager to find the thieves, she has even got hold of some CCTV footage from neighbouring businesses and is trawling through the footage to try and find her bike.
Emily said: “I have some CCTV from a business about a block down the road but I am none the wiser on how bike thieves operate. I don’t know if they have a car or if they just ride away so I am just checking CCTV on the off chance I can find them but nothing looks directly at my door.”
Police Scotland have been approached for comment.
