Edinburgh stag do's Princes Street 'pitstop prank' goes viral with locals in stitches

An Edinburgh stag-do prank has gone viral on TikTok this week after a passerby posted the video online.

Five of the unidentified men were dressed in red jumpsuits as Ferrari pit-stop mechanics and the sixth was dressed like the popular Nintendo character, Mario.

The men were filmed at a Princes Street stop light and pedestrian crossing on Monday. The men waited for traffic to stop at the red light. Then they rushed towards the first car in line, waving inflatable wheels and a green race car card around. The faux-mechanics did some imaginary work to the car in a few short seconds.

The impromptu pit-stop ended when the light turned green, and the men jumped around and waved the car off.

The reaction of the driver is not clear from the video, but the men are filmed smiling and waving to the driver as they drove away.

Reaction to the video was mostly positive, with some people wishing it had happened to them.

“If I was driving, I would pull my car over and buy you all a beer,” one person wrote.

Another said an 8.7 second pit-stop was not too shabby. Others cited silly stunts and outgoing tourists as one of the reasons they love Edinburgh.

The video was viewed more than 95,000 times on TikTok within 24 hours, and was received online as a bit of harmless fun.

Previous stag parties in the city have been more bizarre, with a 32-year-old man in 2021 ending up taped to a traffic light wearing nothing but a thong, suspenders, socks and sandals after a botched nipple piercing attempt.
