Edinburgh set for another week of mild weather as September draws to a close

Edinburgh is set for another week of mild weather as September draws to a close. The capital has been enjoying highs of 14c this week that will continue into the following week but there is a chilly wind in the air.

Despite the warm weather continuing one sign that autumn is well and truly on the way are the evenings becoming a lot darker much earlier.

This week has seen the city plummeting into darkness as early as 19.30pm and its only set to get earlier over the next 6 weeks until the clocks change.

The rest of the weekend is set to be dry with clear periods this evening. The rest of Saturday night will continue dry with lengthy clear periods.

On Sunday most of the day will be dry with some morning sunshine then rather cloudy. Strengthening westerly winds bring some rain for a time later in the afternoon and evening. The maximum temperature will be around 16 °C.

The weather is set to be mainly dry and bright on Monday. But rather cloudy with a chance of showers on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Friday afternoon will see some rain hit the city but still with temperatures ranging between 10c and 13c.

Alex Burkill, a meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “We’ve got a cold front that is pushing its way southwards as we go through to tomorrow, more so later tomorrow and into Monday.

“It will bring some rain and some strong winds, probably the first significant strong winds of the season so far particularly for Scotland, but the bigger talking point being the cold air that’s going to come down from the north behind it. So, temperatures are going to take a bit of a drop.

“I think Sunday night into Monday is going to be a bit chilly for some but because of the cloud, the rain, the strong winds, temperatures won’t drop too much. I think it’s going to be from Monday onwards when we’re going to see the real cooler feel.”
