The Fringe Festival this year will offer a host of shows and events that families will be able sink their teeth into throughout the month of August.
But for those looking for activities outside of the event - that is running from Friday August 5 until Monday August 29 - there is plenty on offer in Scotland’s capital.
Edinburgh is an extremely family friendly city with plenty of activities for your little monsters and public transport available to take you from one end of Auld Reekie to the other for a relatively cheap fee.

And in order to keep you from having to do all the leg work, as we know you are busy bossing the parenting, we have compiled a little list of some fantastic activities.
So whether you are a native to the capital or just visiting with your wee cherubs, we have got you covered.
Our list is as follows:
1. Edinburgh Zoo
Edinburgh Zoo really is a crown jewel in the city with plenty to see and do for kids. The Penguin Parade that takes place every afternoon is especially fun and your young ones can get up close as they watch these majestic, yet smelly, birds frolic around the grounds. The wee beasties exhibition and the pandas are also very popular with any David Attenborough’s in the making. Children under free are also admitted for free!
2. Camera Obscura
Little beans absolutely love a day at Camera Obscura. Although the business is situated at the top of the Royal Mile - tourist central during the Fringe - it is well worth a visit. There are five floors and over 100 interactive, hands-on exhibits, with something fun to entertain all ages. Your family will be able to test your brain against mind-bending illusions and explore Edinburgh’s streets without moving.
3. Dynamic Earth
You will be able to make a journey through space and time and learn how the earth was created with amazing interactive experiences that your kids will love. The tour essentially shows how the earth was created through volcanic eruptions and ice landscapes in a 4D immersive experience. A planetarium show at the end is always a hit with young astronomers in the making.
4. Edinburgh Dungeons
Of course this is not for the faint hearted with plenty of spooky tales and very committed actors giving you an insight into Edinburgh’s dark past. Those visiting will be able to learn about the gruesome tales that have coloured Scotland’s past, from the cannibal Sawney Bean to the infamous grave robbers, Burke and Hare - the attraction also includes a hair raising drop ride.
5. National Museum of Scotland
This truly has everything and who doesn’t want to educate whilst they entertain their child? From a journey through Scotland’s history to a walk on the wild side examining prehistoric creatures to larger more modern animals. There is also ample art and science to be taken in throughout the extensive tours offered within the massive building. It is an attraction that you could spend all day in.
6. Edinburgh Castle
There is heaps of history at Edinburgh Castle with tours that would captivate both young and old minds. The Castle has a rich and long standing military importance to the capital and visitors are able to bask in the regal tradition that embodies the building. From the Great Hall to the Stone of Destiny, there is plenty to keep minds fascinated and occupied.
7. Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh
The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is one of the world's leading botanic gardens. Families can discover a history dating back over 350 years, learn about its plantings and walk around 70 acres of beautiful landscape. A pleasure for all visitors, the Garden also offers a fantastic view of the capital's skyline. Several exotic species can be gazed upon by young budding minds!
