JK Rowling has said that Twitter officials have found no wrongdoing after a user of the social media platform made a threat on the Harry Potter author’s life.
The writer had taken to the site to share a compassionate message that wished for the speedy recovery of fellow author Salman Rushdie after he was violently attacked in New York last week.
Rowling originally posted: “Feeling very sick right now. Let him be okay.” But she was met with a response that led to her contacting the police as well as Twitter support after an account named Meer Asif Aziz told her “don’t worry you are next.”

However, the Aziz account, which has been traced to the Pakistani city of Karachi, was not found to have been in breach of the rules. The 57-year-old Potter writer shared a screenshot of the response from Twitter, the Daily Record reports.
It said: “After reviewing the available information we determined that there were no violations of the Twitter rules in the content you reported."
But Rowling hit back by quoting the Twitter support guidelines, she said: “These are your guidelines, right?". She then quoted from the Twitter guidelines, writing: "'Violence: You may not threaten violence against an individual or a group of people. We also prohibit the glorification of violence... Terrorism/violent extremism: You may not threaten or promote terrorism...'"
Aziz had previously described Rushdie's alleged attacker, 24-year-old Hadi Matar, as a "revolutionary Shia fighter" He also claims to be a "student, social activist, political activist and research activist.”
Rowling was swamped with messages of support and thanked fans by saying: "To all sending supportive messages: thank you. Police are involved (were already involved on other threats)."
It is understood that Rushdie has since been removed from a ventilator and is making a recovery from the horrific injuries that he sustained in what was suspected to be an attempted murder on Friday August 12. The author was said to have been stabbed in the neck.
The Daily Record says that Twitter was contacted for comment.
