Edinburgh’s huge new Virgin Hotel will have a restaurant with an external courtyard when it opens in Spring.
The City of Edinburgh Council received the planning notice to create a new canopy for the courtyard at the already approved bar and restaurant area on the first floor of the new hotel.
The multimillion hotel will be located with the India Buildings on Victoria Street and the old Cowgate Church and will bring 200 new jobs to Edinburgh.

It was announced at the end of last year that Virgin’s Edinburgh Hotel will open by Spring.
Virgin will open the lifestyle hotels in Edinburgh and Glasgow this year and both will include one of their unique Common’s Club, featuring a restaurant, bar and social club.
The swanky new restaurant will feature the Cowgate external courtyard area where diners can choose to eat outside, should they choose.
Virgin want to install a retractable canopy in order that the weather will not disrupt their customers and the courtyard would be connected to the restaurant with sliding doors.
On the planning application the developers say that the addition of the lightweight covering will provide hotel guests, event attendees, restaurant guests and local residents alike with a relaxing and weather protected outdoor space at street level.
Richard Branson’s latest lifestyle hotel is due to open this year, and the hotel itself will have over 220 bedrooms.
He previously spoke of being excited at the new hotels coming to Scotland and called Edinburgh an “iconic city.”
James Bermingham, chief executive of Virgin Hotels, added: “Virgin Hotels Glasgow will have all the brand differentiators such as our innovative chamber design, forward-thinking technology, food and beverage offerings and entertainment.”
