Edinburgh's five-day weather forecast as Met Office gives mixed outlook

Whilst the weather hasn't been too bad lately, many of us were hoping that it would soon brighten up - even for a few hours.

However with the colder season now upon us and winter well on its way, it's not a surprise that we haven't seen the sun as much as we'd like.

According to forecasters at the Met Office and BBC Weather, the capital, whilst dry on some days, is expected to see heavy rain towards the end of the week.

As predicted by the Met Office, the heavy rain is set to begin on Friday (September 30) from 10am and lasting until 4pm.

The heavy downpours are set to last the majority of the day with the forecaster adding the chance of precipitation is as much as 80 per cent.

Often the percentage located next to the rain is spoken about online with the Met Office having to tell people what it really means and that it's not about area coverage. In their explanation they say:" Chance of precipitation represents how likely it is that rain (or other types of precipitation, such as sleet, snow, hail and drizzle) will fall from the sky at a certain time."

Discussing the weather a little closer for tonight, the BBC has said that those in Edinburgh can expect a "breezy and cool" afternoon.

They add: "Western areas will be largely dry with sunny spells and the odd shower. However, the east will see thicker cloud developing, along with a few further showers.

"Tonight will see areas of cloud move in from the north-east, but clear spells are likely in places. Showers will drift in at times overnight, but it will be drier for those in the far north and west."

You can read a detailed forecast for Friday here.
