NHS Lothian has warned of up to 50 minute delays to and from the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and Royal Hospital of Children and Young People for the next 6 months.
“Be prepared for roadworks,” NHS Lothian warned. “This will affect your travel time to your appointment.”
Royal Infirmary and children’s hospital patients may be stuck in up to 50 minutes of traffic at peak times, and the works will add a minimum 20 minute delay.
“We have been informed that this will result in a minimum of 20 minutes delay up to 50 minutes at peak times,” NHS Lothian said.

The road works started on Monday 17 October and are expected to impact hospital traffic for the next 24 weeks.
“Please be aware of road works which are due to commence Monday for 24 Weeks as this will affect your travel time to your appointment,” NHS Lothian said.
Two way temporary lights have been installed on Old Dalkeith Road near Little France Campus, and the lights will move as work progresses from the campus towards the Shawfair Park and Ride/Train station.
“It has been suggested that people travelling to these sites should instead travel via Gilmerton Road, Edinburgh which runs parallel to Dalkeith Road, to access the Campus, as this may limit time impact,” NHS Lothian advised.
Information from Edinburgh Travel News said the roadworks are part of a project to run a new power supply from Little France to Shawfair.
The works will take a two week break over Christmas from 23 December until 6 January 2023.
