Edinburgh reveal pre-season opponents ahead of new campaign

Edinburgh head coach Mike Blair

EDINBURGH have announced that they will play two pre-season friendlies ahead of their 2022-23 campaign, against English Championship side London Scottish at the DAM Health Stadium on Friday 2nd September (kick-off 6.45pm), then away to United Rugby Championship rivals Treviso at Stadio Monigo in Benetton the following weekend (Friday 9th September, kick-off 7.30pm local).

The capital side’s clash against the Exiles will be included in the 2022-23 season ticket membership, with the friendly a rematch of 2019’s pre-season warm-up at Murrayfield, which saw Edinburgh run out 57-21 winners against the Richmond club.

The Benetton game is to be live streamed by the home club and made available to all Edinburgh supporters.

“As a squad and management, we’re excited to begin the 2022-23 season with back-to-back warm-up matches against two quality opponents," said Edinburgh head coach Mike Blair.

“Both matches are designed to maximise squad preparation in advance of the new season. We and London Scottish are aligned in terms of our pre-season schedule, meaning players are heading into the game in a similar physical condition.

“In terms of Benetton, they are obviously a quality team we know well from the URC, and it was great to face them in last year’s pre-season too. Any chance to ready yourselves against a strong opponent is worth taking and will stand our squad in good stead for the new season.

“The 2022-23 season is shaping up to be another hugely exciting campaign and it will be brilliant to be back in front of our home support at DAM Health Stadium in early September – we look forward to seeing our supporters out there at the game, which is certainly something to focus on and look forward to over the course of a summer of hard work in pre-season.”

Having previously flirted with the idea of becoming part of an expanded Super6 competition, London Scottish announced at the end of April that they were forming a strategic partnership with nearby Premiership side Harlequins. Two days later they unveiled former Scotland scrum-half Bryan Redpath – father of current Scotland centre Cam – as their new director of rugby.

Edinburgh's season tickets go on public sale on Monday 27th June, while match tickets for this game will be available at a later date to be confirmed by the club.
