Edinburgh restaurant to close after 15 years as pandemic forces 'hard decision'

An Edinburgh restaurant have informed customers they have made the 'sad' decision to close after 15 years in the business.

The owners of Hakataya Slurp on Candlemaker Row announced on Wednesday (April 20) that their iconic venue will cease trading on May 1, 2022.

Serving up a huge range of sushi and ramen for hungry Edinburgh locals and tourists over the years, the restaurant was just a few steps away from the iconic Greyfriars Bobby statue.

However, speaking on social media, staff shared that the pandemic had taken a detrimental impact on their finances, forcing them to make the 'hard' decision to close.

They said: "Unfortunately we have decided that Slurp at the Kirk/Tang's will cease trading on May 1 2022.

"It is very sad, but due to low levels of sales since this pandemic, we must take the hard decision to do what is right for us.

"I would like to thank our many loyal customers over 15 years."

However, the restaurant emphasised that their other restaurant, the original Hakataya branch will remain open.

Customers with vouchers for Slurp have been informed they will still be able to redeem these at the alternative restaurant.
