Edinburgh restaurant sorry after mum fumes over staff response to son's birthday

Staff at an Edinburgh restaurant were forced to issue an apology after they forgot it was a boy's birthday.

The mother of the boy slammed a 'horrible experience' at West Register Street's Hawksmoor and brandished it the 'worst service' she had ever received.

In response, the Hawksmoor team apologised and said they were 'disappointed' they didn't enjoy their meal.

In the scathing one out of five star Trip Advisor review, the guest fumed: "Visited the restaurant to celebrate my son's birthday. Arrived 15 min before the booking time but they made us wait on the bar even though several tables were empty.

"At 9 they gave us the table and when we ordered several items on the menu were not available.

"After we ordered we waited around 30min to get the main dish and to make things worst they totally forgot my son birthday.

"Do not go there - worst service ever."

In response, staff replied on the travel review website to say: "Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, we really appreciate it.

"I'm sorry to hear that your recent visit to us was disappointing and not the celebration it should have been for your son's birthday."

Despite the negative feedback, the Hawksmoor is considered one of the capital's best 250 restaurants and gets high praise from the majority of its customers. From over 600 votes cast on Trip Advisor, the restaurant scores an average rating of 4.5 out of 5.
