Edinburgh restaurant named one of UK's best launches new menu with £3 dishes

An Edinburgh fine dining restaurant has launched a brand new ‘bar menu’ offering diners the chance to sample some of their most popular fayre alongside a range of exclusive dishes.

Guests at Heron in Leith can tuck in to everything from barbecued octopus and monkfish cheek to Scottish favourites such as Arbroath Smokie as part of the new “casual” lineup.

The eatery, situated on The Shore, has garnered rave reviews since opening its doors a stone’s throw from the Water of Leith last year and was named as one of the ‘best breakthrough restaurants’ of the past 12 months by magazine GQ.

Diners will now be able to experience their highly-rated offering from just £3, which also includes oysters and pork belly served with kimchi.

A 'sustainable' cocktail, known as the 'McGavin,' made from spare 'trim' from the kitchen and created by bar manager Seoridh Fraser will form part of the menu.

The restaurant said: "The idea behind this menu is to offer a more casual and approachable experience for food and drink enthusiasts in a more relaxed environment.

"Guests will be able to enjoy some of our more experimental dishes and drinks without needing to commit to our full dining experience.

"Sustainability and flavour will, as ever, be our focus with the food and there will be an emphasis on using lesser-known cuts like monkfish cheeks which go widely unused compared to the more popular tail.

"These will be marinated in shio koji and cooked on our Japanese Konro barbeque.

"Reservations will not be required to dine with us at the bar, but peak times on Friday and Saturday will have limited availability."

The menu, which is available from 5.30 pm to 10 pm Wednesday - Sunday can be found in full here.
