Edinburgh residents baffled over 'inaccessible' traffic lights that locals can't reach

Edinburgh residents have been left baffled over a set of 'inaccessible' traffic lights at a busy road where there is already roadworks in place, in the Leith area of the city.

Amos Peter Haniff noticed the pedestrian crossing behind a metal fence on London Road on Saturday, January 22.

The resident shared the image and joked: "Going to need a long stick" while trying to cross the road but others pointed out that it is inaccessible and dangerous to visually impaired residents who cannot access the dial under the lights.

Traffic lights are required to help residents cross the busy road and are essential for navigating the road works currently in place.

The lights are situated just minutes from the busy roundabout outside the Omni Centre and very close to Edinburgh's 'lawless' junction which has continued to cause chaos as drivers ignore the no-left turn sign in place.

Motorists were seen driving over 'defenders' installed to ensure no left turns are made, just hours after they were installed.

Despite the signage in place drivers continue to flout the rules and residents are increasingly concerned now the inaccessible traffic lights are near such a dangerous road.

One local said: "Nice one, so the council has made it difficult for motorists now it's the pedestrians' turn!

"It'll be cyclists next then nobody will be in Edinburgh and it will be a ghost town. Oh, wait that will be lots of places for people!"

Another said: "Come on we put up with this dross from the council now it’s just another day in the day of the Leithers life we’ve gone passed laughing now."

While one added: "I see two positives, one - really annoying kids that press the button on the way passed can't, and Pinocchio has no worries either."

The City of Edinburgh Council have been approached for comment.
