Edinburgh property: Inside the £1.5m majestic New Town mansion once visited by the Queen

A gorgeous townhouse, located across four levels, has hit the property market with an asking price of over £1,550,000.

The New Town's category 'A' listed building is currently owned and occupied by the Scottish Women's Institutes, an acclaimed charity which promotes the preservation of Scotland's traditions and rural heritage.

It is for this reason the property was once visited by Queen Elizabeth II, and the monarch was pictured on the townhouse's front porch covered with a red carpet. The Queen has had strong connections with the charity.

Scottish Women's Institutes' memories with her Majesty over the years have been greatly treasured by members, as the Queen was known to have been visiting for committee meetings, national events or by personal invitations, as was mentioned in the charity's tribute video after the Queen Elizabeth II's passing.

Now, boasting a wealth of period features such as working shutters, fireplaces and decorative cornicing, the property is looking for a new owner and offers the potential to be converted into a superb living space.

The property's lower ground floor features a couple of lined cellars, a courtyard with two storage spots, three rooms and plenty of built-in storage spaces. There is also a basement floor.

On the ground floor, there are spacious vestibule and hallway, a kitchen and a couple of generously-sized rooms. In addition, there is a third smaller room with an en-suite toilet.
