Edinburgh Princes Street set for new 'high quality restaurant' under fresh plans

Princes Street could soon have a new 'high quality restaurant' if plans are given the green light.

Edinburgh City Council are currently considering an application to transform a shop unit which occupies a prominent position at the listed 99 Princes Street, on the corner of Frederick Street.

The premises, formerly home to All Saints and currently occupied by the Royal House of Scotland gift shop, has been marketed by property agents Savills for let as a 'prime retail store'.

However plans made publicly available on the council website this week show proposals to convert the unit from a retail to restaurant space.

Documents state: "The submitted change of use application seeks planning permission and listed building consent to enable a restaurant operation (Class 3) at 99 Princes Street.

"The occupation of this unit by a Class 3 operator will contribute positively to this part of the City Centre. Implementation of the proposals will enable a sizeable investment, generating jobs and footfall, all to the benefit of the wider city centre’s vitality and viability."

Furthermore the proposal states that although a tenant hasn't yet been identified for the site, owners Hermes Investment Management Ltd have held discussions with discussions have been had with "a number of high quality restaurant operators".

Edinburgh Live has contacted Hermes Investment Management Ltd for further comment.
