Edinburgh police swoop on city centre street to reports of a 'disturbance'

Police are currently on scene at a busy street in Edinburgh city centre.

Following reports of a disturbance on Montgomery Street near Elm Row, officers were called out to deal with the situation.

An eyewitness passing the area told Edinburgh Live that they saw a woman lying on the ground with what appeared to be blood coming from their head and a male speaking to police.

They also heard loud shouting and screaming originating from the same area.

The incident took place at lunchtime and officers remain on the scene.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Officers received a call at 1:35pm after the report of a disturbance on Montgomery Street and officers remain on the scene."
