Edinburgh police seize illegal substances and weapons during community patrol

Police in the north east of the capital have been out on patrol in the Leith community on Friday, September 30.

Officers were kept on their toes and had a busy day as they apprehended a number of offenders that they were forced to charge and report. They say that during their beat they were able to seize drugs, weapons and vehicles from those breaking the law.

As well as this, they stopped a motorist who was speaking on the phone whilst they were driving what looked like a white Peugeot work van. The driver was issued a fine of £200 and had six points slapped on their licence.

Police shared images of various crimes they were responding to on their twitter. In one image, a white van they had pulled over is visible.

In a post regarding the incident, they shared: “#Leith #NECPT have been responding to local concerns in the community. Unfortunately, we continue to deal with those who choose to use their mobile telephones whilst driving.

“The driver of this van was issued with a fixed penalty for £200 and six penalty points.”

Members of the North East Support Team also shared an image of a Mercedes that they had stopped outside of Farmfoods. An officer can be seen taking down details as they respond to the issue.

They posted on Twitter: “#NECPT have been joined by @PolScotVol (Police Scotland Volunteers) Special Constables from the North East Support Team #NEST, who have been carrying out patrols in the #Leith area.

“This has resulted in seizure of drugs, weapons and vehicles, with several offenders charged and reported.”
