Edinburgh police scrambled as taxi smashes through roadside barrier outside Tesco

A taxi demolished a roadside barricade after reportedly crashing with a white Audi outside a busy Edinburgh supermarket.

A video from the approach road to the Tesco Superstore at Colinton Mains shows the black people carrier embedded in fencing while the car is removed from the scene on the back of a low loader following the 'collision'.

Debris can also be seen strewn across the tarmac before road workers are shown attempting to cut twisted metal railings out of the ground in the early evening in an effort to fully reopen the thoroughfare to vehicles in footage that emerged yesterday.

The nature of the crash is currently unknown, however Colinton Mains Drive was understood to be closed off while the incident was cleared.

It was unclear whether there were any passengers in the Mercedes taxi at the time of the incident.
