Edinburgh police release image of man they want to speak to after 'incident'

Police have released images of a man they want to trace in connection with an incident in the heart of Edinburgh.

Officers believe the individual captured by local CCTV cameras can assist in their investigation, which began in September last year.

The nature of the incident, on West Richmond Street, has been kept under wraps while the subject of a probe by detectives, but police have asked the man pictured to come forward as a matter of urgency.

Officers say it occurred shortly after 11.10pm on Wednesday, September 15.

He is described as being between 40 and 50 years old, with average height and a heavy build.

At the time of the incident, he was understood to be wearing a black jacket and black trousers, while also carrying a bright blue rucksack on his back.

Detective Constable Greg Manley said: "I would urge the man, or anyone who has information relating to him, depicted in the image to make contact with the police."

DC Manley added: “Members of the public can contact Police Scotland via the 101 non-emergency telephone number quoting incident number 1825 of 16 September 2021. Alternatively, calls can be made anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
