Edinburgh police chase ends 200 miles away in Greater Manchester with four men detained

Police have detained four men in connection with a high value theft in Edinburgh after a 200 mile chase that ended in England.

The four men were held in relation to the theft of a quantity of mobile phones in Manchester after Police Scotland officers initially tried to apprehend them.

The Audi A4 was chased by officers on Wednesday, March 9, before being lost from sight in Lanarkshire.

Greater Manchester Police eventually picked up the car and confirmed they have detained all four occupants of the motor.

The Daily Record report that they added the driver has been charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop and having no licence.

The force tweeted: “The Audi A4 was pursued in Scotland earlier today and lost in Lanarkshire. Picked up by #RPUWest patrols on the M61 it was pursued into Salford.

“Tracked by the National Police Air Service North West Region and abandoned Moss Lane where all 4 occupants were detained.

“Involved in high value theft in Scotland. The driver is to be charged with dangerous driving. Failing to stop. No insurance and no driving licence.

“Police Scotland will be attending to interview regarding the theft of a large quantity of high value mobile phones from Edinburgh.”

Police Scotland tweeted: “Many thanks to our colleagues at @gmptraffic @NPASNorthWest for picking this up and bringing it to a safe conclusion.

“EdinburghPolice send their thanks and look forward to meeting the occupants.”
