Edinburgh parents fume at Nickelodeon experience with 'easy maze, exercise bikes and £40 toys'

Edinburgh locals have been left furious after the Nickelodeon Experience made its recent debut in Edinburgh, with many complaining about high prices and 'little to do'.

The touring event offers an immersive outdoor experience for kids with a host of their favourite Nickelodeon characters, featuring activities for kids from the ages of two to 14. However some Edinburgh parents have been left frustrated, claiming the experience reportedly offers very little to do and one parent was forced to rush their child to the medical tent.

The Nickelodeon Experience will be touring across Britain this year, making its debut in Edinburgh from July 2-15, before moving onto Manchester and Hertfordshire later in the summer. The experience at Saughton Park features a Hunter Street Escape Room, a Henry Danger themed maze and the chance for younger kids to explore their favourite shows iconic locations.

However, the event has been poorly received by Edinburgh locals, many of whom complain about a lack of attractions and extortionate prices. One parent was forced to take their child to the medical tent after a loose metal barrier fell on his six year old daughter.

Parents complained that many of the events were disappointing. We spoke to one parent who said their superhero experience consisted of an exercise bike and a space hopper and that the maze was so easy that they “found it harder to find my way out of Ikea.”

After opening on Saturday, the Nickelodeon experience currently has 18 reviews from parents, seemingly all negative. One person wrote: “Shocking day to be honest….very little going on for my two kids. All can be completed in about 30 mins but the queues are what stretches out your time!

“The whole food ordering is a fiasco! We waited over an hour for our food, other parents were getting frustrated and going up to the counter to complain…..so one of the staff members started working through their orders first, causing more of a backlog for the people who were actually waiting in order!

“Keep your money, take kids to the park instead”

While another posted: “Paid £100 for a family of four. Both kids thought it was grim and we ended up leaving after half an hour. Oh, and to leave you have to go through the gift shop where they’re charging £40 for a SpongeBob plush that you can get in a shop for less than half that.

“Never Again.”

Another parent was forced to take their six year old to the medical tent after one of the metal safety barriers fell on his child's collar bone. The child was left cut and bruised after the incident, and her father claims she was very upset and scared afterwards.

We spoke to the parent, who wishes to remain anonymous: “ Her usual bedtime at the weekend is 9pm. We were still up with her after 12 last night as her shoulder was sore and was scared after what had happened.

“I’ve not heard anything from the Nickelodeon experience as they are closed at the weekend. Just comments deleted from the Facebook page. The staff at the event didn't seem interested and had a post it pad of the organisers email address pre-written so must have either already had loads of complaints or expected them.”

Edinburgh Live has contacted the organisers for comment.
