A new Greek 'taverna' has opened in a busy part of Edinburgh, replacing a popular café that made the difficult decision to close in the summer after six years.
Kafeneion to Steki have opened their brand new Greek eatery, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, on Coburg Street in Leith and the team recently enjoyed their grand opening before Christmas.
The restaurant, that will be serving up authentic Greek dishes throughout the day courtesy of owners Joanna and Alexandra, both natives of the country, is bound to be a hit during the warmer months.

Taking to social media to welcome them to the area, Save Our Shore Leith, tweeted: "Welcome new Coburg St Greek taverna 'Kafeneion to Steki', run by Joanna (from Athens) + Alexandra (Crete) who've lived in + loved Leith for the last seven years. Open Tu 5-11, Wed-Sun 11-11, serving breakfast lunch & dinner."
Earlier in 2022, the former proprietors of the building Ostara, ranked as one of the top eateries in Edinburgh, said they were "delighted" to be handing over the keys to Kafeneion to Steki after making the difficult decision themselves to close.
They said: "We were delighted to hand over our keys to @kafeneion_to_steki earlier this year. It has been exciting to see how the team has transformed the space and can't wait to try this unique style of Greek hospitality.
"We were always blown away with the support the local Leith community showed us and hope that Alexandrea and Ioanna will receive the same welcome! Opening tomorrow! Good luck guys."
The restaurant has been carefully decorated to mirror the traditional Greek dining scene, with simple, yet effective décor and a bright and airy atmosphere. As well as customers being able to enjoy great food, the term 'Greek taverna' relates to the idea that customers can enjoy a drink without having to purchase any food during their visit.
A recent post on Facebook from the eatery cleared up why they prefer to be named taverna instead of a restaurant. They said: "Everybody is wondering why we called ourselves a Greek taverna and not a Greek restaurant.
"The reason is that in Kafeneion, you can enjoy delicious mezedes or just come and only have a drink, without ordering any food. We are proud to be able to bring here, more than 30 different Greek wines and the most popular Greek beers."
