Edinburgh OAP can't wash clothes and given £2.5K bill after signing up to government scheme

A terminally ill Edinburgh pensioner has been left without washing facilities for two months and a repair bill for £2,500 after signing up to a government-funded scheme.

Mum-of-two Margaret Phillips, 72, took part in The Warmer Homes Scotland scheme in early September - yet after work from the contractor and managing agent Warmworks was left without her washer and tumble dryer.

She said the machines were disconnected during the install of a new heating system with no physical space to reconnect them afterwards. Margaret is now unable to clean any clothes or bedding - and unable to afford the necessary repairs.
